Polymarket US event contracts are regulated event-based derivatives. They reflect outcomes of real-world events and are not securities.

Who Can Trade

Employees at sell-side institutions (banks, broker-dealers, advisory firms) and buy-side institutions (hedge funds, family offices, private equity firms) are generally permitted to trade on Polymarket US, unless their firm’s internal policies state otherwise.

When You May Not Trade

Under the Polymarket US Market Integrity policy, you may not trade if:
  • You have confidential information about the outcome or likely outcome, and using it would violate a duty of trust or confidence you owe to another person or entity
  • Someone who owed such a duty passed you confidential information, and you know or have reason to know they could not trade on it themselves
  • You hold a position of authority or influence that could affect the outcome, or someone in that position directs or asks you to trade
Some markets have additional restrictions in their contract terms. For example, they can bar anyone who has material nonpublic information (MNPI) from the market’s resolution source, or people connected to a sports event, such as current and former players, coaches and staff, paid employees of the organization running the event, its owners, and their household members and immediate family.
